Kim Kardashian has broken the internet many times, but her recent comments about working as a woman broke it in a way she didn’t exactly intend. During an interview with Variety, Kim caused a stir when she was asked about advice for working women, and said, “I have the best advice for women in business. Get your f**king ass up and work. It seems like nobody wants to work these days.”

Her statement was not well received, with many criticising Kim for not addressing the privileges she had during her rise in the industry.

But now the reality star is discussing her comments, explaining how the viral clip was taken out of context. She told Good Morning America host Robin Roberts, “Well, that statement that I said was without questions and conversation around it.”

“It became a sound bite really with no context. And that sound bite came off the notion and the question right before which was ‘after 20 years of being in the business you’re famous for being famous?’ And I…my whole tone and attitude changed with the previous question that went into that question about what advice would you give to women.”

Continuing to apologise and say, “It wasn’t a blanket statement towards women or to feel like I don’t respect the work or think that they don’t work hard, I know that they do. It was taken out of context, but I’m really sorry if it was received that way.”

The makeup mogul’s apology comes after an awkward (and honestly hilarious) moment at the Oscars, when hosts Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes made fun of Kim’s statement.

The pair were talking to Judi Dench after she didn’t win the award for Best Supporting Actress. Joking that, they found a great inspirational quote that might help Judi. Regina said, “Dame Judi Dench… we have an inspirational quote for you.”

As Wanda added, “You know because you didn’t win tonight.” With Regina then saying, “This is a quote from Kim Kardashian… ‘work harder’. That’s what we need you to do.”

With Wanda telling Judi to “move that ass” if she wanted to win.

Judi and the entire star-studded audience absolutely loved the joke, erupting into laughter. An audience that included Kim’s sister Kourtney, who was in attendance alongside her beau Travis Barker.

Of course, it’s unknown if Regina and Wanda’s comments actually had an impact. Her apology came the morning after their joke, but Kim was seen enjoying her night at the Vanity Fair Oscar’s after-party, so it clearly didn’t spoil her fun.

Kim opted not to attend with her new boyfriend Pete Davidson, having a girls’ night instead with Kourtney and little sister Kendall Jenner who was also there.
