Avery Woods, a 29-year-old influencer from the US, has built a thriving platform by sharing her life as a mother of two – but recently, she left her fans feeling “heartbroken.” Here’s what’s been going on.

Renowned for her relatable parenting and funny content, Avery rose to fame through her viral ‘Hey TikTok aunties’ voiceovers featuring her daughter, Stevie Lee. Over the years, she has cultivated a loyal following, drawn to her authenticity and humour as she navigates motherhood.

The mom of two saw her reputation take a massive hit this month, after a particular episode of her podcast Cheers! with Avery Woods, featuring reality TV personality Harry Jowsey, was released.

At the beginning of the episode, Avery discussed her sex life with her husband, assuring listeners that she and her husband, David, whom she has been with for 10 years, are completely secure in their relationship.

“People get really weird when they talk to other single straight men, but I’ve been with the same man for so long that it’s just fine, so we’re going to talk really openly,” she stated.

Jowsey, known for his playboy antics on reality TV, was his usual unfiltered self. He spoke candidly about how his television persona has damaged his public image, saying: “I’m making an absolute fool of myself, destroying any chance of a healthy relationship, love, or any respect in this industry by doing these shows, so of course I have to get paid.”

During a discussion about online hate, Avery said: “I’ve never been religious, but all my haters would say, ‘you’re a fat, ugly mom,’ but then in their bios, it’s like ‘Psalms 369, blessed mommy of four.'”

In response to Harry’s remark about religious critics, Avery made a comment that many interpreted to be about about Jesus and sexual assault. This has since been edited out of the podcast.

But it wasn’t just Avery’s remarks about religion that caused a stir. At another point in the conversation, she said, “I have had two C-sections, so my body is pristine.” While this comment may have been intended as a joke, many listeners deemed it inappropriate, particularly coming from a public figure known for her family-oriented content.

Avery later took to TikTok to address the situation, acknowledging the controversy and expressing regret for her remarks. She reassured her audience: “This is one of those things where I never, ever want to offend people and their beliefs.

“I just want to say my podcast is a comedy podcast, and there are jokes that I should not make, that crossed lines. I made a joke, and I crossed a line, and I am so sorry,” she said.

She also shared that the episode with Jowsey was largely pre-planned – “The episode I did with Harry was scripted; these were questions that were written by producers, and I probably should’ve spoken up and dimmed it down a bit but chose not to.”

Despite the apology, reactions from Avery’s fans remain mixed. The controversy has left a lingering question: has Avery’s brand been permanently damaged, or will time allow her to rebuild trust with her audience?
