You NEED To Try These Six Affordable Products By The Ordinary – And Here’s Why
Beautiful skin doesn't have to break the bank.
So you’re on a budget but skincare is still super important to you? Well today is your lucky day! I’ve lined up 6 incredible products by The Ordinary that will get your skin out of it’s winter slump and feeling and looking fresh.
I first heard about The Ordinary online through beauty YouTubers based in the UK and US but never really considered giving it a try until last summer. My skin built up a tolerance to the routine I’d been following and just didn’t look it’s best. What drew me to the brand was not only the good reviews circulating online but also the very affordable price point – skincare is a very personal thing and I didn’t want to shed a fortune on products that may not work for me.
The Ordinary is owned by beauty company DECIEM, whose products are free of parabens and sulphates and are also cruelty free (another plus).
Below is a list of six products by The Ordinary that I swear by (in no particular order). The names are intimidating at first glance but I’ll explain what I use each thing for and also how to use it.
Argireline Solution 10% – €7.20.
This product is described on the DECIEM website as a product used to improve the appearance of facial areas prone to developing dynamic folds, including under the eyes and on the forehead. I use this product every morning and night before my heavier treatments. It’s light on the skin and although the results aren’t evident on my skin at the moment, I know I’ll be thanking myself for using it in years to come.
Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% – €5.90.
This serum is designed to reduce the appearance of skin blemishes and congestion. The description also says it can help brighten the skin tone, which I 100 per cent agree with. I apply this every morning after the Argireline Solution and before my moisturiser. It hydrates the skin and creates a moisturised base for your makeup to go over – remember, your foundation will only ever look as good as the skin underneath. The serum reduces the appearance of blemishes, however it shouldn’t be used to treat acne – a retinol or salicylic acid would be better for that!
Natural Moisturising Factors + HA – €5.80.
This moisturiser is designed to keep the outer layer of the skin protected and hydrated. I apply it after my serums in the morning and before my primer as a base for makeup.
Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution – €8.70.
This solution is designed to mildly exfoliate the skin for improved radiance and skin clarity. It’s also said to improve the appearance of skin texture after continuous use. I use this every night after I’ve cleansed my face, just with a cotton pad. I wouldn’t recommend you use this if you have sensitive skin, and The Ordinary also suggest using an SPF daily while you’re using this product as the ingredients can increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun.
Salicylic Acid 2% Solution – €5.30.
I use this treatment on spots and it is a lifesaver. The solution helps exfoliate the inside walls of pores to fight the appearance of blemishes, giving you visibly clearer skin. Like the toner, it’s not recommended for sensitive skin and I only apply it on blemishes at night after my Argireline Solution.
100% Organic Cold-Pressed Moroccan Argan Oil – €6.80.
This oil supports healthy skin and reduces the appearance of flaking and it can also be used on the hair – win win. I apply this after the rest of my skincare routine at night as I find it too heavy for during the day and I always wake up with my skin feeling amazing.
The Ordinary can be purchased from websites such as Cloud10Beauty and CultBeauty. Prices above have been taken from the official DECIEM website.
