Skincare Junkie: Face Oils Are For Everyone (Even Oily-Skinned Gals)
I recently hopped on the face oil band wagon and have a lot to say about it.

Admittedly, the only reason I started looking into face oils was because I saw all the beauty YouTubers dripping it onto their face before applying a flawless layer of foundation. I thought to myself: “That looks boujee AF and I must have it.”
As I simply could not afford to splash out on the $54 ‘Insta famous’ Rose Gold Elixir by Farsali, I had to do some digging. I first tried The Ordinary’s 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Argan Oil, only because it was an oil which had a name I recognised and was reasonably priced. Seeing as The Ordinary market this oil as suitable for your face and also your hair, you can imagine it’s pretty heavy and I just wasn’t mad about the feeling it left on my face. I would only apply it at night before going to sleep, at it would have my skin feeling fab in the morning, however I was still on the hunt for something I could use daily.
Then, STELLAR editor-in-chief Vicki introduced me to Trilogy’s Certified Organic Rosehip Oil. I had never even heard of rosehip oils before but apparently since a rumour spread that Kate Middleton uses them they’ve become the latest big thing, and now I know why.
Rosehip oil is harvested from the seeds of rose bushes predominately grown in South America, and is full of vitamins, antioxidants and essential fatty acids.
I apply Trilogy’s rosehip oil pretty generously after I tone my skin at night, and then sometimes again in the morning before my foundation. It’s not heavy, doesn’t leave your skin feeling sticky and doesn’t cause your foundation to separate (unless you’re using a water-based product, water and oil do not mix).
Now some of you oily-skinned gals reading this may be thinking “why would I apply more oil to my already oily skin?” Well, the myth that people with oily skin can’t use a face oil is just that – a myth. In fact, using the right oil will help regulate your skin’s oil production. Here are some of the benefits of using a rosehip oil in your skincare routine.
It Has Anti-Ageing Properties
Rosehip oil treats your wrinkles and firms your skin due to its antioxidant properties. It’s high in vitamin A and vitamin C which are the perfect nutrients needed to remove fine lines and wrinkles and encourage healthy skin cell production.
Scar Treatment
If, like me, you’ve dealt with acne in the past, you’ll know that the struggle with redness from acne scarring is real. The essential fatty acids in rosehip oil can help reduce scarring and promote skin regeneration, helping with the fading process of your acne scars. It can also be handy to use on stretch marks.
Moisturisation and Hydration
You can swap out your daily moisturiser for a rosehip oil as it has a high content of fatty acids and is a perfect skin hydration tool. Rosehip oil is a natural source of vitamin E, an anti-inflammatory antioxidant that calms and hydrates dry and sensitive skin.
So whether your skin is oily, dry or normal (like mine) you need a face oil in your life. The one I use is Trilogy’s Certified Organic Rosehip Oil – you can pick up a 20ml bottle of it in Arnotts for €22.95.
