Remember Fyre Festival? The week-long exclusive festival that promised to to be the event of the decade. And then, it totally and utterly flopped. Leaving thousands of people stranded on the Bahamas with no festival and more terrifyingly, no accommodation.
Yeah, really rings through to that meme “our plans versus 2020”.
2020 is Fyre Festival.
If you’re not familiar with the wild tale, I’d suggest watching the documentary about it on Netflix now. But of the major faults that lead to Fyre Festival’s demise was the money spent on plugging the festival.
Basically blowing all budget on making the festival look like something It was never going to be, Fyre Festival organiser Billy McFarland spent a hefty sum on a promo video and Instagram posts for the festival which saw the likes of Kendall Jenner, Emily Ratakowski and Bella Hadid partying on a yacht off the beach and then, posting an orange square to their Insta feeds to get people talking.

Now, according to US Weekly and documents they obtained, Kendall, who was initially paid $275,000 for the promotional post, will pay back $90,000 of it to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York City – who of which are trying to help pay back those who lost millions investing in the festival scam.
As for Kendall, she’s just happy to put this behind her, explaining to the New York Times in March of last year that she wasn’t aware of what was really going on behind the scenes, the KUWTK star said:
“You get reached out to by people to, whether it be to promote or help or whatever, and you never know how these things are going to turn out. Sometimes it’s a risk.”

It is expected that Kendall’s model friends and fellow promoters will face similar fines and as for Billy McFarland, the man behind the festival, well, he pleaded guilty to wire fraud and is now serving a six year sentence in prison.
