Paul Mescal Says He Thinks Girls Are Only Sliding Into His DM’s Because They Think He’s Connell

Maybe it's actually because you're a ride, Paul?

Normal People star Paul Mescal has opened up about his new-found fame, admitting that his DM’s are alight with messages from female admirers lately.

However, it seems that social distancing isn’t the only thing keeping Paul from finding a suitable lady friend, as he’s worried that girls now think he’s exactly like his character Connell.

Opening up to The Sun, Paul said that he feels a little uncomfortable with his deep associated with his character, Connell,

‘To be honest, it’s uncomfortable. I’m not trying to be full of faux humility but it’s a weird thing when people are very quickly attracted to a character you play.

‘And I think that’s the thing I’m focusing on. I’m not Connell, I’m totally different to him,’ he continued.

Admitting why he believes that the character of Connell is so attractive to viewers, Paul says:

‘I think maybe what’s sexy about Connell is he’s kind of classic back-footed, aloof, smart. I’m definitely not back-footed or aloof.’

Paul also went on to say that a lot of girls have DM’d him since Normal People has aired speaking to him as though his is Connell, which he finds a little strange.

‘It was kind of fun at the start, “oh, this is mad, people think that Connell’s sexy,”  and then a weird thing has kind of crept in where, when people DM, there’s this feeling that maybe there’s an anticipation that I’m him.’
