What’s The Deal With Those Weird Spots You Get After Being Waxed Or Threaded?

You're hair-free and gorgeous, except for one little thing: those pesky pimples that have popped up right after your appointment. What gives?

Threading

You didn’t ask for a breakout with your Brazilian but for some reason every time you get a wax or thread, be it on your brows, lip or bikini line, you always get a smattering of whiteheads and red inflamed bumps about a day or so after your appointment.

What are they?

Their official name is follicultis, which basically means inflammation of the hair follicles. They’re typically red, bumpy and sometimes itchy and they’ll often have a whitehead-type appearance. They form when an open hair follicle becomes plugged with oil and dirt.

How to prevent them

Ensuring you don’t get a nasty breakout is all in the prep steps. Start out by ridding your skin of dead skin cells with a gentle exfoliator on the day of your wax, then give the area a quick wash with soap and warm water a few hours before you head to your appointment.

As for aftercare? Wear loose clothing that won’t irritate the hair follicle, keep the area clean – and mostly importantly, don’t touch it. As much as we all love that smooth feeling, it’ll only spread germs and increase your risk of getting post-wax pimples.
