Barbie-core Is Taking Over
Life in plastic, its pink-tastic!
Lets face it, Barbie-core is here and we cannot escape it!
Since word of the new Barbie movie starring Margot Robbie came out, our world has only gotten pinker.
Before we delve into the most recent trend taking the fashion world by storm, it’s important to note that this pink trend is not as new as we may think.
In 2011, Nicki Minaj was seen in some serious Barbie inspired looks following the release of her own Barbie doll. In 2015, Paris Hilton wore a hot pink Barbie swimsuit to a pool in Ibiza – and who can forget Gigi Hadid’s iconic shiny metallic pink suit from 2017?

Perhaps when you think of a barbie pink outfit your mind may flash back to a certain monochrome look from 2021.
This fashion week is when we were provided with the iconic pink monochromatic look by Bella Hadid for Versace on the Runway.
A dress paired with Versace tights and the sought after Medusa Aevitas heels to match in Pink, Yellow and Orange. The yellow was later sported by Ariana Grande.

If you are thinking of that time the entire world seemed to turn pink during fashion week you would be correct too!
That pink moment belongs to Pierpaolo Piccioli, as far as fashion’s concerned.
Valentino’s creative director dedicated his entire autumn/winter 2022 collection to hot pink.

As you can see the pink aesthetic certainly had its place in fashion before this movie but we have seen it take over even more this year.
We are seeing everyone hitting the streets with the hottest hue of pink which in turn gave birth to the the newest of the pink trends titled ‘Barbie-core’.
Since images and trailers of the movie have hit the media the trend has just exploded.

This pink explosion is not confined to just fashion, being the most prominent colour in the footage of the movie we have seen so far, the barbie-core is feeding into life everywhere.
In an interview with Architectural Digest , production designer Sarah Greenwood said that to achieve the childlikeness and bright feel the crew used fluorescent Roscoe paint, and Greenwood noted that so much of this specific shade was used that you couldn’t get it anywhere else in the world. “The world ran out of pink,” she commented.
Well there is certainly no shortage of pink at the moment with stars popping up left, right and centre with the colour.
