Curly Girls Listen Up – Here’s How To Get Your Hair Back On Track
It's time to embrace your natural beauty
Over the last few years through social media and looking after ourselves, many of us have realised we may have curly or wavey hair.
2025 is the year of looking after ourselves and embracing our natural beauty, but how do we look after our hair, style it, and keep it from getting frizzy?
Curly Cut
One of the first steps in your hair care journey should be to get a haircut that suits your hair type and your desired look. There are many salons around the country that specialise in cutting curly and wavey hair. Some of these include Rustiq Salon in Kilkenny, Gabriela Leite Curly Hair Salon in Dublin, and Naph Studio in Waterford.
During your appointment it’s important to consult with the specialist as everyone’s hair is different. We all have different textures, patterns and densities meaning we all need to be using different products. Consulting with a curly hair specialist about your hair type will help figure out your dream routine.

Products
After your consultation and figuring out your routine you should purchase some products that will enhance your curls or waves to their full potential. Some of these products include nourishing shampoos and conditioners, leave in conditioners, styling mouse, cream, oil and gel and detangling and styling brushes.
There are many different curly hair brands that you can choose from including CurlyCo, an Irish company who specialise in styling products as well as shampoos for curly and wavey hair. The company have different products for different hair types coily, loose, and tight. Another Irish company, Aveda, has a wide range of haircare products including a specific collection for curly hair alone.

Sleep Schedule
One step many struggle with at the beginning of their curly hair journey is figuring out how to preserve your curls overnight. Most pillowcases are cotton which absorb the moisture and oils from your hair leaving it dry and frizzy.
These pillowcases can also cause breakage to your hair, so it is a crucial step in your curly hair routine to either swap your cotton pillowcase for a satin or silk one, or to wear a turban/bonnet when going to sleep. You can find these products from brands such as CurlyCo, Boots and Wilde by Design.

Hairstyles
Now not every day is going to be a good hair day when you’re trying to wear your natural hair so it is mandatory you find some hairstyles that will make you feel confident and won’t cause tension and breakage to your hair. You can find inspiration all over the internet and on social media.
Many love loose braids, ponytails, buns, and half up half down styles. Slick backs should be avoided when possible as they create tension on your scalp which allows for a lot of breakage however, if you are thinking of slicking your hair back a good way to nourish your hair is to use a hair mask rather than a gel.
