It’s hard to believe that it has been 10 years since One Direction was first formed. Five solo contestants who were placed together by Simon Cowell to form a band we all now know as 1D.
A band that went on to achieve global success at such a young age; which then unfortunately played a part in them splitting ways in January 2016. Yet, regardless of the separation, they still live on as one of the defining bands for many millennials growing up.
Anyone who was a teenybopper when What Makes You Beautiful came out in 2012 will know of the sudden rush of hormones that came flooding in during Harry’s solo on the sandy beaches in his black flannel – IKR?
And now, a decade later, the boys are giving a nod to the band that made them who they are today; with Liam Payne sharing the first text he sent home when he realised One Direction was made.
What a journey… I had no idea what we were in for when I sent this text to my Dad ten years ago at this exact time the band was formed. Thanks to everyone that’s supported us over the years and thanks to the boys for sharing this with me #10YearsOfOneDirection pic.twitter.com/0d17ggB66x

Louis Tomlinson also paid tribute to the band, in a series of tweets he revealed that not a day goes by when he doesn’t think about the band. Tagging all his former bandmates, Louis also revealed that he’s spent the day rewatching old interviews and videos.
Feeling pretty emotional today. 10 years!! Spent the morning watching old interviews and performances. Just wanted to send a massive thank you to ALL of my band mates. What we did together was incredible

Also reminiscing on the glory days, Niall Horan thanked the fans for making their ride such a special one. In an Instagram post, he wrote:
“We felt the adoration of millions from around the planet on a daily basis and it was mind blowing. It’s such a major part of our lives and always will be.”

Now, if you don’t mind us, we’re going to spend the evening blasting 1D’s timeless classics while sobbing profusely.
