Queer Eye Season 2 Is Almost Here – Here’s Everything We Know About It So Far
The Fab Five are back!
Try to contain your excitement, but Queer Eye is coming back sooner than expected! The second season is set to hit Netflix on June 15th, and this time they’re going to mix it up.
The show’s premise is based around the original show Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, and follows five gay men as they change the lives of their fellow Americans, all the while dealing with topics like homophobia and racism.
The Fab Five – Bobby Berk, Karamo Brown, Tan France, Antoni Porowski, and Jonathan Van Ness – are all experts in fields such as fashion and culture.
Season two is expected to be another big hit and the team have revealed that the new show will feature a female cancer survivor and a transgender man.
According Entertainment Weekly, the cast is extremely diverse this season. In the first episode, Tammye is the first woman to get the Queer Eye treatment. Another episode features Skyler, a trans man who’s recently “had a life and body-altering surgery.”
“One of my closest friends is a trans man who is incredible. And a lot of my clients are trans women. So I’m really hoping that we can do right by our trans brothers and sisters,” fan favourite Jonathan said to EW.
“Skyler, for me, is my favourite episode we’ve ever done. I love the others, I truly do. But I wasn’t as informed for Skyler,” Tan added.
I lived a very, very Middle Eastern life until I was in my early 20s. It was very sheltered. Watching [it], I felt like we did it respectfully, where we could ask the questions that probably so many people have wanted to. I’m really proud of that episode.
Tammye is the first black female participant on the show and Karamo said he’s excited to share an insight into the relationship the black community has with the church: “I know how this went back when slaves were freed; I know all the history behind this. So to have this moment for me was like, yes! The world is going to see the love, and how African-Americans congregate and where they find their strength in their family and how they support their community through the homecoming service.”
The diversity on the show this time around is sure to lead to some open dialogue and tear-jerking moments like we saw in the first season.
