Taylor Swift Showed Up For Jury Duty Like A True Normal, But Here’s Why She Was Sent Home

Celebrities can escape most of the trappings of non-celebrity life if they want to: they can send someone to Tesco on their behalf, they can rent out entire theme parks to avoid queues and over-enthusiastic fans, and they can graciously accept gifts from designers instead of hitting up the Christmas sales. You get the picture.

One thing that even an A-lister can’t skip out on though, is their civic duties, as Taylor Swift revealed yesterday when she showed up in Nashville for jury duty.

Having skipped out on the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night, the 26-year-old showed up bright and early at the Texas courthouse on Monday to be considered for jury selection. She even posed with other potential jurors for photos while waiting to meet with the judge:

Unsurprisingly though, Taylor was sent home after explaining to the judge that she felt she could not be an impartial juror in the “aggravated rape and kidnap case” for which she had been called up.

Given that the singer currently has a pending sexual assault case against DJ David Mueller, she felt she would be biased as a juror.

“She asked to be left off out of concern for an upcoming trial in Denver where she was – she used the term – ‘groped’ by a fan at a meet-and-greet,” Ken Whitehouse, a spokesman for the Davidson County district attorney general’s office told media.

Taylor apparently told the told the judge that she would be more than willing to serve on a jury in any other type of case. Good woman herself.
