Season two of Bridgerton is just as exciting as the first time round, with plenty of new drama and relationships to keep us glued to the screen – but there is one thing that there is considerably less of this time, and that’s sex! The second installment of the hit Netflix series opted for a different approach to their iconically steamy scenes, choosing to show more sensual intimacy and a focus on delayed gratification for higher intensity.

According to the show’s intimacy coordinator Lizzy Talbot, this move was designed to pay more attention to female pleasure, focusing on the ‘electricity’ and ‘buildup’ between characters rather than the actual down and dirty.

So what about season three? We know that it’s in the making, with a third and fourth season promised following the success of the first season. But what we’re really dying to know is whether or not the show will return to being hot and heavy, or continue with its new slowed down subtlety. And who better to inform the public than Galway’s own Nicola Coughlan?

Coughlan, who plays Penelope, has suggested that viewers can expect more raunchy scenes akin to season one, ‘I do have a feeling… next year, from what I know, is going to be extremely racy. This is what I feel.’ The Irish starlet also hinted at Penelope having her own sexy scenes to come, saying that her and co-star Luke Newton, who plays love interest Colin, are lowkey dreading any upcoming sex scenes. The actress joked that the pair are finding the whole ordeal ‘progressively less funny and more intimidating as time goes on’.

Creator of the show, Chris Van Duren, also weighed in on the next season, which could be coming as early as Spring 2023, saying ‘the steamy moments are just as sexy and scandalous as season one’.

Well, that settles it. You’ve got this, Nicola!
