This summer’s aesthetic must-haves are a pack of cigs and a Bic lighter, and a strappy white top with no bra. Well, that’s what Charli xcx says anyway.

The Cambridge-born singer released her new album Brat last month bringing with it the beginning of brat girl summer. Charli xcx ‘s sixth album features a lime green cover, convincing the pop star’s cult following that this is the essential colour of a true brat.

A true brat parties the night away in a club until four am, a club rat if you will. The clean girl who makes sure she completes her ten-step skincare routine every night is completely wiped away and replaced with a brat who has no fear of staining her white pillowcases with black eyeliner.

Patent platform Dr Martens with a mini skirt, white ribbed vest, and wraparound sunglasses are all requirements to maintain the shabby chic look that is the brat.
