Who Is Tate McRae? Hollywood’s Newest Pop It Girl

Twenty one year old singer, songwriter and dancer Tate McRae is making a name for herself in the music industry – and rightly so.

The Canadian artist has been making music since the release of her first single ‘One Day’ in 2017. To celebrate the release of her third studio album So Close to What, here’s a run-down of Hollywood’s newest star’s career so far!

Even though Tate is one of Hollywood’s largest pop stars at the moment, she did not start off in the music industry. McRae was first in the public eye when she was the first ever Canadian finalist to appear on the American reality TV show So You Think You Can Dance at just twelve years old in 2016.

Tate’s background in dance has really helped set up the foundations for her music career. Many have compared McRae to Britney Spears and Ariana Grande as her performances are similar to traditional popstar shows, with impressive dance routines and amazing vocals.

After the release of her debut song in 2017 Tate was signed by RCA Records where she released multiple singles however, it wasn’t until 2020 with the release of her first EP, All The Things I Never Said, where she started to gain attention. Specifically Tate’s song ‘That Way’ which rose to fame all over social media platforms especially on TikTok.

After the release of her debut EP, McRae was working overtime constantly releasing new music. Soon after that EP in 2020 she released her hit song ‘You Broke Me First’ and her debut album, I used to think I could fly, which rose to the 13^th spot on the US Billboard Top 200. Fast forward to 2023, Tate released her single ‘greedy’ and shortly after her second studio album THINK LATER.

This album brought Tate into mainstream pop discourse and was a turning point in her career from singer songwriter to international pop star. Since the release of that album McRae was asked to perform ‘greedy’ at the 2024 Brit Awards, 2023 BBMAS and at the NHL All Star intermission performance in 2024.

McRae had an extremely busy year in 2024 with the release of two hit singles ‘It’s ok I’m ok’ and ‘2 hands’ as teasers for her third studio album. While releasing and writing new music McRae was carrying out her first world tour from April to November with over 50 shows. Earlier this year McRae released two more singles ‘Sports car’ and ‘bloodonmyhands’ which featured American rapper Flo Milli.

Even after such a busy and successful year in 2024, Tate is nowhere near slowing down. McRae has just released her third studio album So Close To What with 15 amazing tracks and is planning on setting off on her second world tour starting this March.

The popstar is also set to perform on Saturday Night Live on March 1 alongside Shane Gillis. We can’t wait for another year of talented performances from this extraordinary star!
